At fifteen, a car accident changed my life, leaving me in a coma and with right-side paralysis. The most profound impact, however, has been the traumatic brain injury (TBI) I sustained. For 26 years, I've navigated the ongoing effects of this injury, which occurred during a critical developmental period, shaping my life choices. Living with TBI demands constant self-care, addressing both physical and emotional needs. My experience has highlighted the challenges faced by those with disabilities, particularly invisible ones like TBI and mental health conditions. Stigma, limited access to appropriate care, and a healthcare system often ill-equipped for long-term conditions can create a cycle of compounding disabilities. I share my story to raise awareness, advocate for better support, and connect with others on similar journeys. I believe in the power of resilience and hope to empower individuals living with TBI and other disabilities to live fulfilling lives.
